Petition to Protect the Spirit of "Guinans"

10-Jun-2008

I’m writing to ask for your help as a reader of Little Chapel on the River.

As many of you know, Guinan’s closed its doors earlier this year. Many of us who loved it, whether as regulars, occasional visitors from out-of-town, or dreamers who just liked knowing it existed, are eager to see a new store erected to honor Guinan’s tradition. Already, one loyal patron, Mary Ellen Yannitelli, has put forth a proposal to do just that.

However, some members of the board that controls the building that housed Guinan’s want to convert it into all office space/living quarters.

We’re trying to stop that. An online petition has been started (its first signature is from former New York Governor George Pataki and his wife, Libby) to encourage the board to keep community alive with a new store.

Citizens from around New York, and the country, are responding by signing and leaving a message. I hope you might consider doing the same.

Again, thank you for all of your support. For those of you who don’t know, I am deeply sorry to tell you John Guinan died last week after a brave fight with brain cancer. Many people are leaving messages for his family here:
